NID (National Institute of Design) Andhra Pradesh, is located in Vijayawada. Currently, NID AP doesn’t have a campus of its own. The college functions from a temporary setup in Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. The permanent campus is under construction, and will soon be ready to move into. It’s located in Amravati.
Since the permanent campus isn’t ready yet, students are required to find their own accommodation in a residential township just opposite of the college. All the NID students are currently staying in IJM Raintree Park as tenants. The students manage to get the flats by approaching the owners themselves or through the college wardens. Or with the help of seniors.
So, in short there are no hostels provided if you opt for NID AP at the moment. Which isn’t really a bad thing because there are many things, you learn to do for yourselves. And of course, there are the added benefits of having ultimate freedom. Since you don’t really have a warden controlling all your activity, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want and however you want.
As for the other facilities, for example transport to the college. Shuttle service is available, payable on a monthly basis. The mess facility is also not provided by the college and has to be managed on your own. Other than these, there are some important things one has to manage while living in a flat. For example, the cleaning helpers, gas connection, electricity bills, water supply, groceries, maintenance, Wi-fi connections etc. It’s like an adulting 101 lesson before you actually become a certified adult.
Umm, so I guess I have pretty much summed up the pros and cons of the entire situation, rest is up to you to decide. Don’t let the institute go just because there is no hostel and mess facility yet, the education is just as good as the others. And if you’ll ask for my opinion, it’s a good deal actually. Who doesn’t like an extra bit of freedom? Wink wink..
