As of 2022-23, approximately 15000 students appeared for the NID (National Institute of Design) DAT Prelims (UG) Exam for a total of 125 seats at NID Ahmedabad, 75 seats at NID Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam each. So, a grand total of 425 seats.
Compared to engineering and medical entrances, yes, a lot lesser students apply. But as the demand for design is growing, the number is only bound to increase in the upcoming years. Plus, as we continue to spread design awareness, across the internet and wherever else it’s possible, people in India are keener on learning design as a career.
The true value and requirement of design is slowly coming to light and everyone’s coming to realize that there are many more career options than just engineers and doctors. Don’t mean any sort of offence to any of those guys, I mean we need ya’all. Super important. Doctors save lives. But you guys need us too you know? Maybe you haven’t realized yet. But you do.
Design is everywhere. Even in the tiniest of places. You’ll never realize it’s there until you are told or you are a designer yourself. The smallest details on the packaging of products have been planned to the minutest level. The way a product feels, opens, doesn’t open, your entire process and usage journey with the product is recorded and worked upon. Even experiences and processes are done the same way. Design can be small, but makes a huge impact.
