What are the documents required for each of the reserved categories for admission at NID?

NID (National Institute of Design), is a premier design institution in India. It opens admissions annually for students to apply to both the masters and bachelor’s category. Many people wish to apply for the reserved seats, and for that NID has got you covered. There are just a few official documents you need to give them to prove your eligibility and done! Voila! It’s sorted, you get the reservation.

So, here, in this blog, we want to make things even easier for you. We’ll be telling you all the documents you’ll need to hand in, category wise!

Remember, all the information provided in this blog is from the NID admissions handbook for the bachelor’s and master’s programs, from the year 2023. This data is subject to change and for the latest information, please do visit the NID Official Admissions website.

Economically Weaker Section (EWS)

You’ll need to give them an Income & Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The Income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the following authorities in the prescribed format as available on the website https://admissions.nid.edu will only be taken. 

 (i) District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/ Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/ Additional Deputy Commissioner/ 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate/ Executive Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner 

 (ii) Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate 

 (iii) Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar and 

 (iv) Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.

Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer)

If you are applying to this one you need to produce/upload a valid certificate in your name in English/Hindi language only, from the relevant competent authorities of their respective State or Union Territory, certifying that you do NOT belong to the Creamy Layer, along with the final application form. 

 If the certificate isn’t in English/Hindi you need to provide the original certificate and the notarized copy.

Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe

If you’re looking to apply for the SC/ST category, then you must provide the relevant caste/tribe certificate (In English/Hindi only) issued in your name by the relevant authorities of state, union territory or National Commission of Tribes. 

 If the certificate isn’t in English/Hindi then you need to provide a notarized copy along with the original.

Person with Disability (PWD)

People applying for this category need to provide:

(i)A disability certificate issued from the Unique Disability Identity Card Portal namely, http://www.swavlambancard.gov.in as per the Gazette notification dated 5 May 2021 issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

(ii)A valid Disability Certificate issued by Competent Medical Authority as certified by the Government of India, valid at the time of applying online. The formats of the certificate (Annexure 1 to 4) are available on the official website of admissions https://admissions.nid.edu under the Download section.

(iii)And Dyslexic candidates need to submit FORM (Annexure 4) instead of PwD certificate. The certificate must clearly mention that the disability is at least 40% or ‘SEVERE’ under Dyslexia category to enable the candidate to avail the benefit of PwD category.
