What is NIFT CAT?

NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) holds its entrance exams annually for both the masters and bachelor’s programmes. One of the tests they take for most of the degrees they offer is the CAT. The Creative Ability Test is there to see exactly how far your imagination goes. You are asked questions to check just that. It’s a test where you are supposed to show your crazy, creative side.

There are a few basic things we’ll go through first.

Language: English/Hindi 

 Duration: 180 minutes 

 Number of Questions: 3 (usually) 

 Type of Questions: Subjective

This test is administered for both UG and PG Design Programs to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of color and illustration skills. As said by NIFT on their 2023 official guidelines pdf. 

What this means is they want to know how well established you are with all the traits mentioned above. Do you have that keen power to sniff up a problem? Are you as observant as a spy? Can you cook up pro concepts? And how well can you present it all? They want to know, and I'm sure you've got all of it. So, show it to them.
