Which companies come for placements at NID, NIFT & UCEED/CEED?

As heard and mentioned time and again, National Institute of Design (NID), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), and IIT Institute of Design (IIT-IDC) are hailed to be some of the most prestigious design institutes in India and many students spire to seek admissions into these institutes.

The entrance exams to secure admission into these colleges are highly competitive, and the admission process is rigorous. However, the education and rewards are worth the effort. They are known for their meticulous curriculum, experienced faculty, strong industry connections, and impressive alumni network, providing their students with a solid foundation for a successful career in design.

Once upon a time, I was one of these students. Chasing my dreams to have a successful career in design, I wanted to study from these premier institutes. While my questions revolve around how to clear the entrances, my parents were more concerned about the placements.

And that is a valid concern — does passion pay the bills?

We have covered salaries and placement packages before in another blog😀 (do refer to those too!), so today we will discuss the companies which come for placements and/or usually hire designers (in the case of there being no official placement fairs).

National Institute of Design (NID)

NID, one of the premier design institutes in India, has a strong placement record, with many top companies recruiting design graduates, notwithstanding whether there are placement drives or not.

The placement process starts in the final year of the program, where students are trained in communication skills, interview skills, and portfolio development.

Some of the notable companies that come for placements or recruit NID graduates are —

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)

At NIFT, the placement process is also structured, with a focus on industry exposure and practical learning. The institute organizes industry visits, internships, and guest lectures to help students gain practical experience and build industry connections —

IIT Institute of Design (IIT-IDC)

At IIT-IDC, the placement process is designed to help students secure job offers from top companies in the design industry. The placement process is similar to that of NID’s where students are trained in communication skills, interview skills, and portfolio development. The placement cell also may organize workshops and seminars to help students prepare for the placement process —

Now, remember when I said that not all colleges have placement fairs but design students still secure job offers? Let’s have a quick look into how one can do that-

Freelancing: One can start freelancing while still in college, which can help them build a portfolio and gain practical experience.

Personal branding: It is important to create a strong online presence by showcasing their work on platforms like Behance, Dribbble, and LinkedIn.

Networking: Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and build connections with industry professionals. The design field highly relies on networking.

In conclusion, by performing well in colleges like NID, NIFT & IIT-IDC, having good portfolios and making connections, the possibilities are endless.
